Hey guys,

we are an American/German family that lives in Munich. Here and there we run into the situation where we wanna buy certain food items for special meals and can't find them in a reg. German store. I found a online store, where you can order US items, but they are pretty expensive. With Thanksgiving coming around, I would like to get a few things (cranberry jelly, canned pumpkins, etc), plus my husband can only get his chew there as well. My husband is in the Nürnberg area quite a bit for business and we were hoping to make a connection to somebody that works/lives at a military base, so we can go shopping here and there, maybe 2-3 times a year. We used to have a friend, that was stationed in Mannheim, but he went back to the states. Would anyone be able to help us out :-)

well...

it worked before and it was just fine. Not sure why you judge about me/us....I thought this site is here to help each other. I would do it for somebody in the opposite situation. Not sure if anyone knows how it is to live away from home and that little things can make a big difference. I appreciate your anwers, but I'm not sure why you answerd, if you're not planing to help. I didn't need cooking instructions, I asked a simple answer. If it doesn't work, its also fine...I had the idea and thought, I'd give it a try. Wasn't planing to go against the law or anything. Sorry, you missunderstood.

need to loosen up

You guys need to loosen up a bit....you're taking this way too serious. And, oh yeah...I have no problem with the answers, but I didn't ask for permission or if I go against the law I don't need legal advise. I was looking for someone, that could help me getting the things, that I might need or want here and there - no big deal and simple as that. I thought, "Landsleute" help each other out. Must be a different culture I guess. And if you can't help me with it, then why do you answer w/things, that I didn't ask for. . Thats alright...this Forum isn't my thing apparently. I'm out....too bad. Thought this would go different here.

Hey Sternla

I agree with you. it is a big responsibility. I'm not asking to be brought on base, it also would be just fine, if somebody could get us a handful of things. We'd pay in advance of course. And you're right...we have to deal with the thought of not having everything that we might want or need. But if there might be a way of getting something, why not try. If you would have the choice to get some bread, wouldn't you take it either? But after all, it doesn't matter I guess. Doesn't seem to work out. We will find a different way or just have to deal with it :-)) thats alright. Thanks for being nice about though. Wish you all the best!!!

Sorry but I lik e your sentence: Not sure if anybody knows how it is to live away from home and that little things can make a big difference.
Some of us are military wives who lived in foreign countries and often had to make due without things "from home". And some here are asking questions like why can't I get a decent german bread here or Quark or whatever. I think all of us have been in a situation like that where we could not get the foods we were used to. And it makes it especially hard on a holiday.
I don't want to s sound hard, but you'll have to do what the rest of us have learned: learn to make it from scratch, pay a lot of money for it or do without.
Pumpkins are available in Germany. Don't know about cranberries, but if you can't find them - fresh or as sauce- try Preisselbeeren. They are not exactly the same but in a pinch.....
Shopping for somebody in the Commissary who is not entitled to the benefit can have serious repercussions for the buyer if one is caught.

Do you realize that somebody's job can be on the line for doing you a favor? Don't you think that is a high price to pay just so you can have cranberries and chew?

Waren da so Coupons dran geklebt?
