Forgetting words in your own language

Those of you who have been living a long time in the USA and speak now more English than German... do you also find yourself sometimes forgetting words in German?

Hi Heiner, Did you used to be German? If so and when you call your friends or family in Germany do you find yourself accidently using English words instead of German words when talking to them?

Absolutely! And not just words. The other day I told my mom to turn the music down and what I said was....Mom, dreh die Musik runter

I often mix the languages. It is so embarassing sometimes - especially when I call my parents in the USA. Sometimes I want to say something and the German word comes easier than the English word I want to say... my mind sometimes goes blank.

yap..yap..yap there are like 2 germans in my town, and when we see each other and talk, i tend to switch from the german language into the english language.

No you're not alone. It used to be worse before I started to participate in the forums. It's good practice
