    Getting citizenship for a baby to non-US parents

    Recently, I have heared rumors that if a child has been born by non-US resident parents (and not greencard holders also) won't be able to get a US citizenship, can anybody assure that or says that it's true ?

    Well, it depends on where the child is born, obviously.

    If the child is born in the United States, the child is a United States citizen, regardless of the citizenship/immigration status of his/her parents. (AFAIK)

    Now, people us this "loophole" to their advantage. They illegally enter the United States, then have an "Anchor Baby". There's been a small, unorganized movement in the Congress to look at getting this changed, but hasn't gone anywhere yet.

    Sorry, your question was pretty vague. Could you elaborate?

    Thanks for explaining and putting the term "anchor baby" into discussion but I have not "gotten the idea" yet.
    As far as I know, a baby cannot petition for its parents' citizenship before it has reached the age of 18. So how does the "anchor" work exactly?

    Here's an informative link on citizenship:

    http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/services/natz/citizen.htm

    "A citizen of the United States is a native-born, foreign-born, or naturalized person who owes allegiance to the United States and who is entitled to its protection. In addition to the naturalization process, the United States recognizes the U.S. citizenship of individuals according to two fundamental principles: jus soli, or right of birthplace, and jus sanguinis, or right of blood.
    The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees citizenship at birth to almost all individuals born in the United States or in U.S. jurisdictions, according to the principle of jus soli. Certain individuals born in the United States, such as children of foreign heads of state or children of foreign diplomats, do not obtain U.S. citizenship under jus soli."

    And here is a link on sponsoring your parents to immigrate to the U.S. (After they successfully immigrated and lived there for five years they can apply for U.S. citizenship):

    http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/servic...m#anchor365711

    "Eligibility

    To be eligible to sponsor a relative to immigrate to the United States you must meet the following criteria:
    • You must be a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and be able to provide documentation proving your status.
    • You must prove that you can support your relative at 125% above the mandated poverty line. Click here to find out more information about meeting this criteria and filing the Affidavit of Support.
    • If you are a US Citizen you may petition for the following foreign national relatives to immigrate to the United States; however you must be able to provide proof of the relationships:
      • Husband or wife;
      • Unmarried child under 21 years old;
      • Unmarried son or daughter over 21;
      • Married son or daughter of any age;
      • Brother or sister, if you are at least 21 years old; or
      • Parent, if you are at least 21 years old."

    Accourding to a phone call to USCIS a baby can't be a US-citizen if both parents are illegal.

    quote
    Under this interpretation, the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants and tourists are automatically U.S. citizens. Some legislators, reacting to illegal immigration, have proposed that this be changed, either through legislation or a constitutional amendment.
    end of quote

    So you have to change the constitution.
